This season I thought we would start Jason's favorite photos of 2019 series with one of my favorite self-promotion photos of my Wifey and her Bluegrass Band! If anyone is new to the blog, I try to take my favorite photos from the past year and present them to you week-by-week. Along with the photos, I give you just a glimpse of the story behind them and the reasoning/insanity that is my artistic mind.
As for this Photograph it was taken as a promotional photo for their (at the time) upcoming gig in Manteo NC. SO, here’s what I was given to work with; I had to photograph everyone on a day they were practicing, which meant they were all meeting at a house in a neighborhood on the Outer Banks. As I walked through the door, they told me they had envisioned water… LOTS of water and the tall marsh grasses that grew in it. Luckily, they were practicing across from one of the channels coming off of the sound. After scoping it out I chose a dock that looked promising. However, we had to wait until the sun was setting so they were not looking directly into it and so their shadows were nice and soft. Now if you’re asking why they are all stacked up on each other, the answer is “that’s all of the dock I could fit into the photo. I was personally standing on one of the side docks that jut out from the end of the original. It was only four feet or so. BUT I was able to get water, marsh grass, and do it all while hiding the houses behind my subjects. YAY for rule number one of photography! (and if you don't know what rule number 1 is, come have me photograph your family and find out!)
How does this photo make you feel? Leave a comment below! And if you're interested in having me photograph your family, feel free to click on one of the links at the end! I can't wait to start a conversation with you.

Outer Banks Family Photography
ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
When I was growing up, my family would take vacations to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I remember body surfing in the waves, fishing off the piers, and building sand castles. As my life has unfolded, I have found myself lucky enough to live on the OBX with my wife, Amy, raising our young son in the sand.
When you book your OBX vacation, it’s one of the few times during the year when your whole family gets together. Of course, you want to get some memorable shots with your family on the beach! My fun and energetic style will bring smiles to the faces of both adults and children. Even Uncle Bob who hates having his picture taken will be enjoying himself!
I have been photographing since 2001, and there are few backdrops as beautiful as our Outer Banks beaches. Whether you’ve booked one of the huge houses in Corolla, or have nestled in the quiet corners of Rodanthe, or are enjoying views of the Hatteras Lighthouse, I’d love to talk with you about photographing your family. Call, text, or email to get to know me a little better. Until then, peruse the galleries, and start dreaming about your OBX family vacation!
I love Outer Banks Family Photography, and I love being an Outer Banks Family Photographer. Come book a session and see how much I love your family as well.
